The Pilates Method offers a unique and invaluable mode of training for men. Pilates is often thought not to be suited for men. The reasons for this are many and varied and include: Pilates being practiced predominantly by women, the way Pilates has been portrayed by the media, the fact that Pilates is very popular among dancers to the point that Pilates is often perceived as ONLY for dancers, and most Pilates teachers are female. Yet, there are few fitness regimens that are as well suited for men as Pilates.

Pilates with a Twist- with Ed Botha

The Pilates Method has often been accused of being one dimensional and linear. Pilates with a twist will explore some of the lateral flexion and rotational movements of the method. Both of these actions are essential for efficient functional movement, one of the principals of the Pilates Method. We will move from the basic to advanced rotations, discussing safety and the appropriate prescription of each movement.

Shoulder Mechanics- with Meredith Rogers

This workshop will focus on the correct mechanics of the shoulder girdle - particularly relating to the Pilates repertoire. Immaculate control and sequencing of movement are essential in this method. Higher-level Pilates challenges, coupled with everyday activities demanding shoulder involvement, can easily create negative movement patterns and compensations. Poor shoulder stability, mobility and correct patterning of movement are certainly the most frequently encountered dysfunctions amongst clients. This subject is one that needs to be addressed as its implications are far reaching.
